SEN Teaching Assistant (ARP – Autism & Additional Needs Focus)

Salary: £90–£100 per day
Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.
Hours of work: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday (term time only).
About the Role:
We are recruiting on behalf of a highly supportive and inclusive school in Barking & Dagenham for a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and additional needs.
The ARP supports a small cohort of 8 pupils, providing a structured, nurturing and personalised learning environment. This is a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated SEN professional who is passionate about helping children with autism thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
You will work closely with the SENCo and class teachers to deliver tailored interventions, support communication strategies, and help pupils access the curriculum in a meaningful way.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide proactive, consistent support within the ARP classroom
• Support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder and additional needs across lessons and structured activities
• Assist with personalised learning plans and communication strategies
• Support pupils during routines, group work, transitions and social times
• Encourage independence, positive behaviour and peer interaction
• Adapt and modify learning resources to ensure accessibility
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals where required
Requirements:
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
• Previous experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly ASD (strongly desirable)
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Confidence supporting structured interventions and personalised learning programmes
• A genuine passion for inclusive education
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
