Job Description
3. Lead the planning and execution of technical projects, from feasibility through to full-rate production, with a focus on NPI, industrialisation, and technology integration.
4. Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams across design, manufacturing engineering, quality, and supply chain to ensure coherent project delivery.
5. Define project scope, schedules, risk registers, and resource plans using structured project management methodologies (e.g., APM, Prince2).
6. Act as the primary interface for engineering-led projects with internal stakeholders and external aerospace customers.
7. Ensure that products are developed with full consideration for manufacturability, cost, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
8. Oversee the creation of manufacturing documentation including process flows, PFMEAs, control plans, and work instructions.
9. Apply APQP and PPAP methodologies to ensure products and processes are production-ready and fully validated.
10. Manage engineering change, configuration control, and versioning throughout the project lifecycle.
11. Conduct technical reviews and design-for-manufacture (DFM) workshops to de-risk industrialisation activities.
12. Drive resolution of technical issues through root cause analysis, using 8D, DMAIC, or similar structured problem-solving tools.
13. Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and mitigation plans to senior stakeholders, customers and project governance boards.
14. Ensure adherence to AS9100, customer-specific standards (e.g., Rolls-Royce SABRe, Airbus standards), and internal QMS procedures.
15. Contribute to continuous improvement across engineering and project delivery processes.
The Successful Applicant
A successful Technical Project Leader should have:
16. Strong track record of leading engineering or industrial projects within the UK aerospace sector.
17. Minimum 8 years' experience in an aerospace or high-spec industrial environment, ideally involving manufacturing engineering or industrialisation.
18. Degree or HND in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
19. Demonstrated understanding of aerospace industry quality standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) and regulatory frameworks.
20. Experience with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC).
21. Proficient in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and documentation control systems.
22. Strong communicator with an ability to clearly articulate, use listening skills to converse with multi-level stakeholders in which to build a transparent and trust building environment.
23. Excellent stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills, capable of influencing across technical and non-technical functions.
24. Confident in interpreting aerospace engineering drawings and GD&T.
25. Data-driven approach to decision-making, supported by knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and KPIs.
