Specialist Treatment and Recovery Service (STaRS) is a unique, multi-disciplinary team offering community adult mental health rehabilitation services working with people across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The team currently works with people in the community and in-patient units to support discharge to the community. STaRs is currently undergoing a period of change and it is expected that the Specialist Occupational Therapist will be able to contribute to these developments.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a truly multi-disciplinary way with colleagues including nurses, recovery workers, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists as well as other occupational therapy staff. The team deliver interventions aimed at maximising service users' activities of daily living, skills development and social inclusion.

The post holder will base themselves at the STaRS base in Hull as well as being able to travel across Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire to deliver the service. They are also expected to work shifts and weekends as required, with long days being the preferred working pattern to meet service needs. However, other patterns of working can be considered in line with Trust policies.

There is potential for this job to be offered as a Band 5-6 development post dependent on the applicant. Qualified occupational therapist wishing to return to practice are also encouraged to apply.


Main duties of the job

To offer a high standard of evidence based occupational therapy assessment and intervention as part of a multi-disciplinary team

To be responsible for own autonomous practice, as well as other's supervised practice, to ensure effective patient/client care is maintained

Provide supervision, leadership and support to more junior staff and students within the team

Act as keyworker (and care co-ordinator where applicable) for a caseload of complex clients

Undertake role of Duty Officer on a regular basis as per rota

Contribute to the development and leadership of STaRS as part of the senior leadership team Demonstrate "Being Humber" values and behaviour and be a positive role model to all staff

Attend and engage in appraisal processes, continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities, supervision and reflective practice

Contribute to team audits and/or link worker roles

Person Specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with the HCPC
* Broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation, drivers and their application to clinical practice and service
* Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and their use in practice
* Knowledge and understanding of the evidence base relevant to the clinical area
* Experienced and competent practice educator with up to date SLiP training
* Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning
* Registration with relevant RCOT specialist section(s)
* Willingness to consider undertaking Practice Educator training


Experience

* Appropriate knowledge/experience working in a relevant service area
* Understanding of caseload management clinical responsibilities
* Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to clinical area
* Evidence of specialist practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
* Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation


Skills and Competencies

* Evidence of good time management skills
* Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
* Ability to commute between the various sites
* Provide working hours to support the service needs
* Awareness of leadership/management skills and qualities
* Working knowledge of Trust policies and procedures
* Ability to manage daily operations and maintain a safe working environment
