Overview
Senior Town Planner - Policy role at AECOM. This position is based in the London Aldgate Tower office, with potential for other locations (including Basingstoke, Bristol, Birmingham, Cambridge, Chesterfield, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, and Plymouth). We operate a hybrid working model with flexibility between office and home. The role is available on either a full-time or part-time basis.
What you’ll do
* Planning Strategy and Expertise
o Lead and assist on key planning policy projects, including supporting local authority policy and strategy development, coordination and delivery of local plan evidence studies, strategic growth studies, infrastructure strategies and other policy and strategy commissions.
o Offer strategic planning advice to other client and internal teams.
o Provide effective representation for the organisation, developing and managing relationships with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders through project work and through attendance at conferences and other networking events.
o Sharing technical knowledge and excellence.
* Project Management
o Ensure projects are delivered successfully on budget and within programme timelines.
o Assist in coordinating multi-disciplinary teams for seamless project execution.
* Quality Assurance and Compliance
o Contribute to deliverables produced by the planning policy team.
o Implement and uphold quality assurance and health and safety principles.
* Business Development
o Contribute to the business development strategy, nurturing client relationships.
o Lead and assist in the preparation of commercial tenders to secure new opportunities.

* Sub-Regional Spatial Plans – growth studies and evidence base for plans and policy, including work in the OxCam Arc, Thames Estuary, Hertfordshire and the East Midlands; involvement in Garden Towns and related research.
* Local Plans – local plan evidence and support across numerous authorities, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to inform and test planning policy at all plan-making stages.
* Strategic Masterplans – masterplanning Garden Communities with long-term investment impact.
* Neighbourhood Planning – support for neighbourhood plan making, including scoping, evidence base production, engagement, appraisal and plan production.

Qualifications
Experience
* Significant relevant experience leading and contributing to planning policy and strategy development in a consultancy or public sector role.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
* Client focus with good interpersonal and collaborative skills.
* Existing relationships with clients and local authorities.
* Business development mindset with experience of work winning and developing client relationships.
Skills
* Ability to produce high-quality technical reports and communicate effectively.
* Ability to work on your own initiative and under pressure.
Quality & Commitment
* High level of commitment to quality.
Education & Professional Memberships
* Degree in Town Planning or related discipline, and membership of the RTPI or equivalent, or working towards membership.
