Senior Staff Nurse - Surrey Downs H&C role at Surrey Downs Health & Care Partnership
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Staff Nurse to join our dedicated team at Dorking Hospital. In this leadership role, you will oversee and support the daily operations of the ward, providing expert care to patients with frailty and rehabilitation needs while fostering a positive and collaborative environment. As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will manage and supervise ward staff, deputise for the Ward Manager, mentor team members to support their professional development, and contribute to service improvement initiatives. Working shifts include long shifts (07:30 - 20:30 or 20:00 - 08:00) and short days (07:30 - 15:30 or 12:30 - 20:30) over a 7-day week. This may involve both day and night shifts to provide clinical leadership, supervision and support for junior staff and students.
The post holder is responsible for the ongoing management of patients and/or staff within their clinical setting, alongside their team lead, and will take the chain of command in the absence of the team lead. This includes assessment of care needs, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, setting and maintaining standards, and supervision and deployment of staff where appropriate. The post holder will undertake facilitation of educational programmes for basic, post basic and in-service training, in close liaison with the Learning and Development Team. To work closely with the senior team member to facilitate patient-focused, innovative research-based practice in line with Surrey Downs Health and Care objectives.

Responsibilities
* Oversee and support the daily operations of the ward and provide expert care to patients with frailty and rehabilitation needs.
* Manage and supervise ward staff; deputise for the Ward Manager.
* Mentor team members to support professional development and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior staff and students, including night shifts to maintain continuity of care.
* Facilitate educational programmes for basic, post-basic and in-service training in collaboration with the Learning and Development Team.
Qualifications and experience
* Qualified nurse with leadership experience in a ward setting.
* Ability to assess care needs, develop and evaluate care plans, set standards, and supervise staff.
* Experience in providing patient-focused care, especially for frailty and rehabilitation populations.
Additional information
* Role requires shifts in line with ward patterns, including long shifts and nights.
* Working pattern supports clinical leadership and continuity of care especially when senior management is not available.
