Adult Bereavement Lead
Department: Adult Bereavement Service (ABS)
Type: Permanent – Part Time
Hours: 18 Hours, based on 36 hours per week FTE
Salary: £19,216 per annum pro-rata (£38,432 per annum FTE)
Must be able to work on a Thursday: Some flexibility as to the remaining working pattern subject to service need will be considered
Location: Service needs requires working across our 3 sites in Deptford, Orpington & Sydenham

Founded in 1967, St Christopher’s is a world renown leading Hospice supporting individuals at end of life and those close to them across five London boroughs; Bromley, Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.
The ABS team are passionate about offering a range of support to adults who are grieving after the death of someone the Hospice has supported at end of life. Additionally, we offer community bereavement support to anyone who lives or has a GP in the Bromley or Lewisham boroughs.
About the role:
This is a fabulous opportunity for a qualified counsellor (Level 4 diploma or above) to join the thriving Adult Bereavement Team at St Christopher’s.
The focus of the role is to co-ordinate an allocated section of the ABS volunteer workforce to deliver bereavement support to those bereaved adults who have been assessed as needing bereavement support which may be delivered as 1-1 or through a therapeutic group.
There will be an element of ongoing review of materials used to ensure they are up to date and fit for current purpose.
The Lead will ensure that BSVs are fulfilling their obligations and adhering to the St Christopher’s policies, procedures and organisational values as well as responding to queries or other related matters from the BSVs.
The successful applicants will spend 20% of their conditioned hours on client facing clinical work which may include a caseload of individual or group work.
What you will bring to the team:
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with substantial relevant clinical experience in the field of bereavement and loss, who is able to work both independently to undertake clinical work, assess and respond to risk as well as collaboratively to share their knowledge and expertise through interactions with volunteers or employed colleagues.
Working independently or collaboratively as part of a larger team, your excellent written and verbal communication along with your IT and organisational skills will be essential for liaising with our 100 Bereavement Support Volunteers (BSVs). Additionally, these skills will be utilised to connect with a range of other audiences and for other purposes, including contributing to delivery of training/CPD as required.
