3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
* Acting as a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) with signature authority for Best Interest Assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments.
* Supporting Adult Social Care teams by ensuring legal compliance and safeguarding individuals' rights during complex decision-making processes.
* Providing expert judgement on capacity and consent matters relating to deprivation of liberty.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
* Conduct and authorise Best Interest Assessments and DoLS assessments in line with relevant legislation.
* Review cases to determine whether deprivation of liberty safeguards apply and ensure assessments are accurate and timely.
* Liaise with health and social care professionals, legal representatives, and families to gather comprehensive information.
* Provide clear, detailed reports and recommendations following assessments.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policies, and best practices related to mental capacity and safeguarding.
* Uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive information securely.
Skills/Experience:
* Strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and relevant safeguarding legislation.
* Experience in assessing capacity and making complex decisions involving deprivation of liberty.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
* Ability to work independently, managing a part-time remote workload efficiently.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Additional Information:
* Qualified Social Care Practitioner with proven experience in Best Interest Assessments and DoLS.
* The closing date: 10/10/2025.
* Working approximately 2 hours per day remotely.
