Job Description
Senior Works Manager
Purpose of the Role: As a Senior Works Manager on our new major highways project at the M5 J10 in Cheltenham, you will lead the team to deliver works safely, efficiently and to programme. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you’ll oversee day‑to‑day site operations, coordinating resources, plant, subcontractors and stakeholders to ensure delivery meets safety, quality and design requirements, with a strong focus on a “right first time” approach.
What You Will Be Doing
* Promote and maintain a safe working environment, ensuring permits, inductions and briefings are completed correctly
* Lead and manage a delivery team of site foremen, reporting to the Construction Manager
* Manage daily site operations, ensuring effective coordination across the site team, client and contractors
* Support planning and programming to deliver works safely, efficiently and to programme
* Manage plant and site resources efficiently to meet programme and cost targets, minimising waste
* Ensure temporary and permanent works are delivered in line with design, ITPs and company quality standards
* Supervise subcontractors to achieve a “right first time” approach, monitoring performance against safety, quality and programme
* Maintain accurate site records, including diaries and compliance documentation, supporting audits and continuous improvement
About You
* A strong commitment to working safely, with experience delivering toolbox talks and safety briefings
* Confident communicator, able to work effectively with site teams, subcontractors and clients
* Able to prioritise work to meet key programme milestones and deadlines
* Comfortable reading and interpreting design drawings, with a calm and practical approach
* Experience managing and developing teams, supported by relevant construction qualifications (e.g. NVQ Level 5) and a valid CSCS card
