Overview
Locum Consultant Post for a 6 month fixed term contract with a special interest in Glaucoma at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to complement the current Glaucoma service provision.
The post is for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Glaucoma. The successful candidate would contribute to acute ophthalmology and general ophthalmology and would have on-call commitments. The department is extending consultant‑led evening and weekend work, to be agreed as part of the job plan with PAs adjusted accordingly. The appointee will also contribute to teaching and training for medical students, specialist trainees, nurses and visiting doctors.

Responsibilities
* Provide a full range of ophthalmology emergency and elective care for patients admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, in collaboration with Consultant colleagues.
* Deliver a comprehensive elective and emergency Ophthalmic service and provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
* Maintain continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and ensure the proper functioning of the department; duties subject to review and mutually agreed changes.
* Contribute to teaching and training for undergraduate and postgraduate learners; participate in CPD and other educational activities.
* Engage in clinical governance activities including audit, incident reporting, risk management and adherence to evidence‑based practice.
* Support extended service hours with possible evening and weekend work, as agreed in the job plan; time off in lieu provided if weekends are worked.
* Work within a multi-disciplinary team and supervise junior staff where appropriate.

Qualifications
* Essential
o Full GMC registration
o Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register
o CCT expected within 6 months of interview date
o FRCS, FRCOphth. or equivalent
* Experience
o Full general ophthalmic surgical training with sub-specialty expertise in Glaucoma
o Evidenced technical skills as described in the job description
* Desirable
o Experience of working within a Glaucoma service
