Clinical DutiesCarry out first-line observations: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose etc. Perform more advanced clinical tasks (where trained/competent) such as ECG recording, venepuncture, specimen collection, urinalysis. Provide wound care and dressings, application/removal of simple dressings. Assist with minor injury treatments (e.g., simple fractures immobilisation, basic splinting, plaster work if trained) under protocols. Support patients with personal care: mobility, hygiene, feeding, toileting etc. Patient Flow / Support Duties Assist in triage or initial assessment by gathering patient history, symptoms, and observations (within scope / under supervision). Help maintain clinical areas: ensure equipment is ready, rooms are prepared, stock is replenished, cleaning and infection control duties are adhered to. Support during peak demand times, helping with patient throughput (moving patients, transporting, helping with discharges/admissions if required). Communication & Teamwork Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and other healthcare staff. Provide reassurance, explanation, and emotional support as needed. Escalate concerns or deteriorating patient conditions to registered practitioners. Work as part of multi-disciplinary team, sharing information, helping handover, covering shifts etc. Health, Safety & Compliance Follow Trust/ED/urgent care service policies, local protocols, infection control, safeguarding and confidentiality. Maintain accurate records (electronic & paper) for patient observations, care delivered, tasks carried out. Participate in training, CPD (Continuing Professional Development), and maintain own competence. Qualifications & Experience Essential NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification. Proven experience working in a clinical / health care setting (urgent care, ED, or similar acute environment preferred). Ability to perform baseline observations and carry out clinical tasks under supervision. Desirable Experience of wound management, minor injuries/fracture management. Experience of ECG, venepuncture, specimen handling. Good standard of literacy and numeracy. (GCSEs or equivalent in English & Maths) Personal Qualities / Skills Compassionate, patient-focused and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Good organisational skills; able to prioritise tasks. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Reliable, punctual, able to work shifts including evenings, weekends, bank holidays. Team player, flexible and adaptable to changing demands.
