We are looking for a Payroll Coordinator to join our Devonport team on a permanent contract. You will play an important role within the Commercial Team, supporting the delivery of the on site payroll function to ensure employees are paid accurately and in line with contractual arrangements and strict weekly deadlines.

Working closely with the Senior Payroll Coordinator, you will support the processing of weekly payroll for over 400 weekly paid operatives, helping to maintain payroll accuracy, compliance and data integrity.

This position is key to supporting our operational teams and ensuring a high standard of payroll administration and service across the site.

How You Will Make An Impact

Supporting the Senior Payroll Coordinator and Commercial Team with the weekly payroll submission in line with company and contractual deadlines
Inputting daily timesheets into the electronic payroll system accurately and in a timely manner
Checking and validating inputted timesheet data to ensure accuracy prior to submission
Preparing and supporting submission of the weekly paysheet to Central Payroll
Processing absence administration including sickness, holiday, paternity and bereavement paperwork
Supporting completion and submission of the weekly holiday tracker
Calculating travel time and fares in line with the relevant union agreements and entering payments into payroll
Responding to payroll-related queries from employees and escalating where appropriate
Administering employee detail amendments and maintaining accurate records
Supporting Baker Mallett payroll audit requirements and providing documentation as required
Assisting with management and weekly updates of the master payroll sheet
Maintaining data accuracy and integrity including rates, radius, fares and employee information
Carrying out payroll adjustments and backpay calculations under guidance where required
Liaising with site operations and the central payroll function to ensure smooth payroll processing

General Administration Responsibilities

Processing and maintaining relevant purchase orders and requisitions
Providing administrative support to the Commercial Team as required
Supporting wider commercial activities to ensure smooth site operations

What You Will Bring

Previous experience in an administrative role (payroll experience desirable)
Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy when handling data
Ability to work to strict weekly deadlines in a fast paced environment
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
Proactive approach with the ability to use initiative and take ownership of assigned tasks
Professional and approachable manner when dealing with employees and operational teams
Strong computer literacy skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel and electronic payroll systems
Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Desirable

Previous experience in a payroll or finance function
Experience working within a contracting or construction environment
Familiarity with payroll software
Awareness of basic payroll compliance and audit requirements
