Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Technical Expert – Sockets & Wireless Charging to be based at our customer’s site in Oxford.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
The USB, Socket, and Wireless Charging Technical Expert is responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of in‑vehicle power and connectivity interfaces, including USB ports, 12V/AC power sockets, and wireless charging systems. The role ensures that these interfaces meet performance, safety, regulatory, and customer experience requirements across vehicle programs. The engineer collaborates with cross‑functional teams including interior systems, infotainment, electrical architecture, suppliers, and manufacturing to deliver robust and high‑quality charging and power solutions for modern vehicles.
Area of Responsibility
* Lead the design and development ofUSB charging/data ports, power sockets (12V/AC), and wireless charging modulesfor vehicle interior systems.
* Define system requirements, interface specifications, and performance targets for power delivery and connectivity interfaces.
* Manage integration of charging interfaces within the vehicleelectrical architecture and infotainment systems.
* Coordinate with suppliers to develop hardware solutions, review designs, and ensure compliance with OEM standards.
* Performsystem-level validation and testing, including electrical performance, thermalbehaviour, EMC/EMI, and durability testing.
* Ensure compliance with relevantautomotive, electrical, and wireless charging standards(e.g., USB Power Delivery, Qi wireless charging).
* Supportvehicle packaging and interior integration, working closely with interior design and mechanical engineering teams.
* Investigate and resolve issues related to charging performance, compatibility, and user experience.
* Contribute toDFMEA, DVP&R, and engineering change managementprocesses.
* Providetechnical guidance during prototype builds, vehicle testing, and production launch phases.
* Analysecustomer feedback and field issues to drive continuous improvement of charging interfaces.
Knowledge / Experience
* Bachelor’s degree inelectrical engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline.
* Strong understanding ofUSB technologies (USB 2.0/3.x, USB-C, USB Power Delivery).
* Knowledge ofautomotive power distribution systems (12V, 48V where applicable).
* Experience withwireless charging technologies, particularly Qi-based systems.
* Familiarity withautomotive electrical integration, wiring harnesses, and connectors.
* Ability to interpret electrical schematics and system architecture diagrams.
* Experience withautomotive development processes(e.g., DFMEA, DVP&R, requirements management).
* Understanding ofEMC/EMI considerations in automotive electronics.
* Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
* Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage supplier technical discussions.
Preferred Skills
* Experience working within anautomotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
* Knowledge ofUSB certification processes and compliance testing.
* Familiarity withQi wireless charging certification and interoperability testing.
* Experience withvehicle interior electronics integration.
* Knowledge ofCAN/LIN communication used for power management or charging modules.
* Experience withautomotive validation testing, environmental testing, and reliability standards.
* Exposure tocharging compatibility challenges with consumer devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.).
* Understanding ofvehicle infotainment system interfaces and data connectivity through USB.
* Experience supportingvehicle launch and production readiness activities.
