Location: Bury Head Office.
Role type: Permanent (minimum 3 days a week in the Bury office).
Role overview
Legal Counsel (3+ years PQE) in the JD Group Legal team. The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of commercial contracts, with a focus on supporting the IT and Supply Chain teams. The role involves reviewing, marking up and negotiating contracts, and experience in consumer law and advertising/marketing is preferred. Experience in retail, FMCG or consumer-facing businesses is advantageous. The Legal Team supports the JD Group globally and includes mentoring junior team members.
Key duties / responsibilities
* Advise and support the JD Group on all types of commercial contracts, including consumer, advertising and marketing queries.
* Mentor and develop junior team members; create standard template agreements; improve working processes; and provide training to the business and the Legal Team.
* Collaborate with the Compliance team and the Group’s Data Protection Officer; knowledge of data protection and other regulations relevant to a large multinational is an advantage.
* Work with stakeholders across the JD Group on various commercial contracts; participate in global projects with cross-functional teams; contribute to rolling out training, policies and guidelines.
Skills / Experience / Knowledge
* UK qualified solicitor – ideally 3+ years PQE.
* Experience in reviewing, drafting and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts within in-house or law firm settings.
* Ability to work with all levels of stakeholders in a large global corporate (including the executive leadership team).
* Strong understanding of consumer law, data privacy, competition law and advertising/marketing standards.
* Effective communicator with negotiating and drafting skills.
* Self-motivated, ambitious, team player with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and strong attention to detail.
* Ability to think creatively to find effective solutions and support cross-jurisdictional projects.
* Project management experience, particularly across multiple jurisdictions, would be highly desirable.
* Experience in retail/FMCG/customer-facing industries is beneficial.
