We're proud to be partnering with Severn Trent to support the appointment of an experienced Head of Capital Delivery – Water on a 6-month contract basis.
The Head of Capital Delivery for Water will lead their delivery teams and to be responsible for the full life-cycle delivery of a c£2billion programme of work for all water treatment projects across the region
Role Objective:
The role reports directly into the Executive Committee and will have overall strategic responsibility, and accountability, for the delivery of all Water projects across the Severn Trent region, ensuring they are delivered in a safe, environmentally responsible and cost effective manner.
Leading the function (150 STW employees) and associated delivery supply chain, the role holder will be responsible for the proactive and thoughtful strategic planning and continuous improvement and evolution of the delivery function ensuring efficiency, effectiveness through delivery of all key metrics and developing a customer centric delivery culture ensuring we deliver against the commitments set out in our business plan, and seek new opportunities that will enable future success.
They will do this through working closely and collaborating with fellow strategic leaders in Design, Delivery, Capital Commercial and Operations, along with other members of the senior management (SMT), Executive Committee, (STEC) and our Capital Supply chain to influence, embed and lead a culture of customer first delivery.
You will proactively communicate plans, progress and development across all stakeholders while remaining empathic to operational challenges in order to make sensible sustained improvements in design & delivery.
This is an important and critical leadership role where the ability to influence senior peers across the business & supply chain is essential
Key Accountabilities:
To build on our vision for what a genuinely brilliant in-house Delivery department looks like, and lead the team of Severn Trent employees, and our supply chain to deliver that vision. Building a culture of delivery through strong leadership and sufficient delegation of authority and accountability in your teams.
Overall accountability for the Delivery of a portfolio of projects and programmes of work to a value of circa £2 billion over 5 years, working closely with commercial teams, chief engineer and operations to ensure projects are delivered in a safe, environmentally responsible and cost effective manner.
Develop a rolling 2+ year programme of work to enable STW's supply chain to achieve capital efficiency targets whilst ensuring sustainable relationships with our supply chain contractors carrying out either design and build or detailed design and build
Create a high performing highly engaged team, developing a culture of curiosity and challenge in order to identify opportunities to innovate and drive efficiency and quality in design.
Drive safety improvement performance for the supply chain to ensure the safety of employees, customers, public and those impacted by our operations. Deliver a step change in safety performance and lead a sustainable change in the safety culture.
Research external best practice and identify areas for improvement and innovation.
Create strategic capability plan ensuring the skills and capabilities are developed red to meet the future needs of the business. Developing and implementing changes to strategy relating to the capital programme and managing specific projects required to deliver wider Business Plan objectives.
Drive better engineering risk decisions. Instigate a thorough and robust risk management process. Design-out risk or make more informed investment decisions based on depth of risk awareness.
Managing relationships with a complex array of internal and external stakeholders able to manage and align the tensions of operational asset management with longer-term planning and value creation opportunities.
Build and develop a world class Delivery function. Take responsibility for developing talent and the next generation of engineers in the business.
Experience:
The ideal candidate for this role is likely to have the following experience:
A leader who brings collaborative working together with proven experience of working in a regulatory industry leading a multi disciplinary team with a similar sized portfolio of capital projects and programmes - this could either be in house or through a large contractor.
Water industry experience would be beneficial, however experience in asset intensive industries where design, programme activity, innovation and process are a core feature of the business would also be of interest. This could include rail, highways, nuclear, utilities, telecoms or similar.
Dynamic and collaborative leader with excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels. You will have a strong ability to build successful working relationships with internal and external stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds, and hold a relentless drive for continuous improvement, with the ability to innovate and anticipate unexpected issues and challenges as they arise.
Used to attracting and developing talent, including the next generation of engineers in the business, and have the ability to take the team on a journey with you living our company values everyday through having courage, embracing curiosity, taking pride and showing care.
Built a track record of strong financial, commercial and operational success with demonstrable experience of exceeding Health, Safety and Environment performance
Chartered Engineer - either Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, ICA, Telecommunications, Environmental Engineer or similar

Qualifications:
- Chartered Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, ICA, Telecommunications, Environmental Engineer or similar
- Full UK driving license
