The job:
We are looking for an experienced bookkeeper reporting directly to the Financial Controller. As a key member of the finance team, you will take full ownership of the internal bookkeeping function, playing a crucial role in the continued growth and financial health.
Your role will be to strategically transition bookkeeping duties from external accountants to an in-house process, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. You will be instrumental in strengthening the financial operations by managing day-to-day bookkeeping activities and collaborating closely across teams to support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
ACCOUNTS PAYABLE - Management of the accounts payable function, ensuring supplier payments are controlled and paid in a timely manner on a weekly basis. Supplier statement reconciliations.
BANK RECONCILIATIONS - (daily/weekly) including PayPal, NatWest bank and Soldo accounts.
PAYROLL - Processing of weekly payroll and monthly salaries with diligence and subsequent payment to employees using Xero software.
PENSIONS - Payment of monthly payroll/pension deductions to HMRC/NEST, associated balance sheet reconciliations and annual handling of P60/P11D’s.
LEDGER - Maintain the general ledger by posting journal entries and updating accounts such as accruals, prepayments, and fixed asset register.
VAT - Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns. Customs & duties knowledge ideal.
EXPENSES - Management of company expenses using application-based “Soldo” software.
HMRC - Liaison with external accountants and HMRC when required.
REPORTING - Support to the Financial Controller as required with financial reporting. What You'll Bring
Proven experience in a bookkeeping or Accounts Assistant role, including payroll processing. Possession of a recognised qualification such as AAT or in bookkeeping.
Essential hands-on experience with cloud-based accounting platforms like Xero, combined with strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel to support accurate financial reporting and analysis.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, balanced with the ability to work autonomously whilst actively contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Demonstrated adaptability and eagerness to learn within a fast-paced, rapidly scaling start-up environment. Brings a proactive, solutions-focused mindset and is committed to continuous improvement.
Comfortable navigating change and ambiguity, helping to shape and refine internal financial processes as Years expands its operations and moves bookkeeping in-house.
