Environmental Enforcement Officer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Enforcement Officer to join our busy Environmental team on a permanent full-time basis.
The Environmental Team tackles a wide range of issues of high importance to the public ranging from noise complaints to unauthorised encampments, to fly tipping (Illegal Waste sites) and other antisocial behaviour. The role is varied and fast paced on a daily basis and can present complex issues which need to be resolved, you constantly need to adapt and engage with different audiences and work as part of a team.
Team work with other departments within the council as well as external multi agency partners such as the Police, Kent Fire & Rescue Services and the Environment Agency are required to drive results. Networking and good working relations with these key investors and sharing of Intel is a critical part of the role.
Attention to detail is a must, all cases are to be formally documented with comprehensive and concise notes from a standard service request, issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices for offences where appropriate, assist legal services in presenting cases to court and attending as a witness when needed. Record witness statements and conduct interviews under caution when required. Validate and verify personal details of offenders.
This is a full-time position working 34 hours per week on a permanent basis. There may be instances, where you need to conduct occasional evening and weekend work for 'scheduled' visits. You should also hold a full UK driving licence and have use of a vehicle for work purposes.
We are looking for a driven individual with excellent customer service skills, diligence, and a passion for delivering results to the community. You will need the ability to work well with others and be a strong collaborator. The successful candidate must have a positive 'can do' attitude and the willingness to be flexible in your approach to the role, in addition to having a full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across the borough as required.
The successful candidate will be confident with computers and be assertive with an eagerness to learn. They are to possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and demonstrate an ability to produce evidential cases, with a view to prosecution.
More importantly, they must have a passion for resolving issues affecting the quality of life and environment in Swale. A drive and willingness to be effective and undertake their role to the best of their ability.
The Council considers this to be a customer focused role and the ability to converse at ease with customers adapting communication style to suit differing audiences and provide advice in accurate spoken English is fundamental to the role.
