Length of employment: Job Summary: To ensure that DCMS can deliver its mission, the department has established the DCMS Cyber Security Group (DCMS-Cyber). A new multidisciplinary cross-departmental cadre of cyber security and intelligence specialists, DCMS-Cyber leads activities to understand, identify and respond to cyber threats. From cyber threat intelligence analysts, to operational policy experts, DCMS-Cyber plays a central role in ensuring that vital services are protected from current and near-future threats. Job Description: Like many parts of government, DCMS is wholly reliant upon technology to meet its mission requirements and deliver vital services to the public. Due to the nature of the organisation and broad range of credible threats faced, seeking to exploit its services for financial or political gain, it is crucial the department maintains a strong defence. This is a highly visible role. Working closely with internal and external partners, you will act as the front line against such threats, leading vital work that seeks to identify and respond to potential compromise through the monitoring of key systems. Working with technical expertise, you will proactively lead efforts to identify key vulnerabilities associated with departmental devices and infrastructure, before they can be exploited. You will also lead the department's cyber incident coordination activity, establishing clear processes that will be at the heart of DCMS's cyber response effort.DCMS values its staff and offers a wide range of benefits to everyone who works here. Develops security operating procedures for use across multiple information systems or maintains compliance with them; Applies routine security procedures appropriate to the role, such as patching, managing access rights, malware protection or vulnerability testing with autonomy; Develops and tests rules for detecting violations of security operating procedures with autonomy Information Risk Assessment and Risk Management. Practitioner. Has a good understanding of how assessed risks are addressed as part of an approach to risk treatment Legal & Regulatory Environment & Compliance. Awareness. Maintains understanding of regulations that will impact the role; Follows documented procedures for compliance. Protective Security. Awareness. Maintains an up-to-date understanding of fundamentals of other areas of cyber security. Threat Intelligence and Threat Assessment. Practitioner. Applies threat intelligence to model threats and protects organisational assets and goals, including informing the selection of security controls, developing indicators of compromise, detecting illicit behaviour providing context for undertaking investigations and responding to events. Threat Understanding. Practitioner. Proactively identifies, interprets and leverages a range of relevant sources of threat information, using a variety of techniques, to understand the threat environment (local and strategic), including its nature, capability, focuses of interest and other factors associated with relevant threats Desirable Skills: A strong existing network, or the ability to forge a network of contacts across government and external organisations. Experience of using Microsoft security platforms and technologies, in particular Sentinel and Defender. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across organisational boundaries and cultures. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate, summarise and describe technical issues for non-technical audiences. We fully recognise that the requirements for our cyber roles are demanding and difficult to attain.
