Job Summary
The Day Surgery Unit is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Ward based Band 5 Staff Nurse. The successful applicant will also be expected to work in the recovery area with full training being provided if required.
Working in Day Surgery will help you maintain a good work life balance, enjoy the structure of elective procedures along with day case trauma and emergency procedures and the support to develop personally and professionally.

Main Duties
We are an innovative and busy Day Surgery Unit being part of the Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The unit consists of two theatres and attached first stage recovery area, the Eye Day Case unit, and a satellite unit at Weymouth Community Hospital.
The unit provides a variety of procedures across ENT, General/Breast Surgery, Gynaecology, Colorectal surgery, Orthopaedic surgery, Urology, Maxillo‑Facial surgery, Special Dentistry, and also post‑operative care for day‑case pathway patients who have undergone Ophthalmic, ENT, orthopaedic/trauma, Gynae, General surgery, and procedures performed in Interventional Radiology.
We provide service Monday to Friday, 7am to 8pm. Rotation across all sites is required. You may also be required to support in other theatre areas.
Responsibilities
As a Staff Nurse in the Day Surgery Unit, you will engage with patients and families during all phases of care; assess and monitor patient progress; collaborate with multidisciplinary team to deliver safe clinical care; manage recovery area duties; maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors; uphold confidentiality; and demonstrate proficiency in nursing practice.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Registered Practitioner.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Desirable: Teaching course or qualification.
Experience
* Minimum 2 years’ experience as a staff nurse at Band 5 in the NHS.
* Recent experience of working in the NHS.
* Desirable: Understanding of professional nursing issues.
Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
* Evidence of ability to practice as a proficient practitioner.
* Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors.
* Demonstrate understanding of confidentiality.
* Desirable: Ability to manage time effectively.
