We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of the Skilled Trades Specialist IV, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS! This position is responsible for the daily‑uninterrupted operation of the Alfred D. Noyes Children’s Center and handles maintenance duties such as HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and preventative maintenance. The Skilled Trades Specialist IV may also handle new construction, installations, alterations, renovations, painting, and repairs of facility equipment, electrical work and grounds maintenance/snow removal in order to maintain the facility. This position requires the incumbent to work second shift, 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the daily‑uninterrupted operation of the Alfred D. Noyes Children’s Center and handles maintenance duties such as HVAC, lighting, plumbing, and preventative maintenance. The Skilled Trades Specialist IV may also handle new construction, installations, alterations, renovations, painting, and repairs of facility equipment, electrical work and grounds maintenance/snow removal in order to maintain the facility. This position requires the incumbent to work second shift, 10:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.


POSITION DUTIES

* Perform maintenance and repairs for all building systems to maintain the facility.
* Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems.
* Perform maintenance and repairs on various electrical equipment and fixtures.
* Perform road repair and walkways.
* Apply plaster to walls and ceilings, repair damaged surfaces and perform concrete work on various structures.
* Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting.
* Operate central air conditioning plants and equipment, conduct safety inspections of boilers and provide oversight to the cleaning, repair and maintenance of furnaces and boilers.
* Provide year‑round outside grounds maintenance for DJS facilities to maintain a safe and properly manicured property.
* Assist in the relocation of furniture and other equipment necessary to provide the proper environment of occupants at various buildings.
* Carry out repairs to buildings as a Skilled Trades Specialist IV.
* Exhibit the ability to interpret and analyze specific instructions provided by the supervising Maintenance Supervisor IV for minor repairs.
* Perform the Preventive Maintenance plan as instructed for the facility plant operation in accordance with all required repairs.
* Perform all responsibilities assigned by the supervising Maintenance Supervisor IV; exhibit skills necessary to operate all maintenance tools.
* Perform emergency repairs.
* Perform functions as related to Logistics Control.
* Perform proper operation of all State owned vehicles and ground equipment in accordance with all DJS policies.
* Daily record keeping to ensure compliance with DJS and ACA standards.
* Respond to the facility when instructed to complete repairs and for weather related facility operations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
* Experience: Five years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work.
* Note 1: Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
* Note 2: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non‑commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.


DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience in grounds maintenance.
* Experience overseeing a complex repair or renovation project by ensuring that the work met safety codes and state regulations, stayed on budget, and was completed on time.
* Experience staying current with changes in building codes, OSHA standards, and trade‑specific regulations.
* Experience mentoring or supervising lower‑level technicians.


LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

* Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
* Employees in this classification who perform electrical work and are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202‑3651.
* Employees in this classification who perform work as a plumber must possess a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License.
