Cancer Clinical Educator

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic registered nurse to join our forward-thinking Personalised Cancer Care Team as a Cancer Clinical Educator. This role will support the delivery of high-quality cancer care by developing and delivering education, training, and clinical support across the cancer nursing workforce.

You will work closely with the Lead Cancer Nurse to embed Core Cancer Capabilities in Practice, helping staff maintain and develop the specialist knowledge and clinical skills required to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. Youll have the opportunity to contribute to the development of structured education frameworks, clinical competencies, and innovative teaching approaches.

You will play a key role in supporting professional development, improving patient outcomes, and enhancing staff confidence across the cancer pathway


Main duties of the job

As a member of the Trust'seducation team, the post holder will:

Work with healthprofessionals across all disciplines at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHSFoundation Trust, to train and educate individuals and teams, to deliverexcellence in cancer care and support

Develop anddeliver a portfolio of education in cancer care and support for our staff thatprovide care for cancer patients

Support the cancer workforce to identify their training needs andlearning opportunities, in accordance with national guidance and frameworks

Ensure training and educationresources are available and disseminated using innovative platforms andtechniques, utilising digital resources where possible to promotesustainability of cancer education delivery.

Lead, plan and support auditactivity to inform targeted education and training to support future contentand delivery of cancer education

Facilitate the trusts current cancereducational programmes, to ensure all training requirements are met inaccordance with the programme aims.

Engage with clinicians and widerstakeholders to facilitate specialist and targeted education for Cancer NurseSpecialists.

Support the future development ofcancer education and training, working alongside the education team and cancerservices, identifying and negotiating opportunities for partnership workingwith external bodies including:

Job responsibilities

The primary purpose of this role is to developand deliver on-going education, training and support across the cancer nursingand AHP workforce.

The post holder will contribute to the deliveryof the National Cancer Agenda through the dimensions of the role.

The post holder will contribute to thestandardisation of core components in cancer specialist nursing practice acrossthe organisation

Identify all opportunities for themselves andothers where learning can take place, both formally and informally.

Undertake a Training Needs Analysis across thecancer workforce and maintain registers of training as appropriate

May be required to undertake a Team Lead role.

Contribute to the development of corporatecancer training and education.

The post holder will support cancer nursingpractice development initiatives.

Develop appropriate competency-based clinicalskills education and develop relevant competency assessment documents forapproval by the appropriate Trust Committee, e.g. Clinical Role DevelopmentGroup or Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Group.

To provide a nursing lead on cancer educationinitiatives

Influence change and development of practice,utilising the most recent evidence base.

To improve the delivery and quality of servicesprovided within the cancer care environment, through utilisation of a corecancer skills and capabilities framework.

Contribute to the performance review of cancernursing staff.

Develop and sustain innovative flexible blendedlearning opportunities which support staff to attain approved competencieswhich are both cost and time effective.

Ensure training and education resources areavailable and disseminated using innovative platforms and techniques, utilisingdigital resources where possible to promote sustainability of cancer educationdelivery.

Lead, plan and support audit activity to informtargeted education and training to support future content and delivery

Maintain discipline within the clinical area,abiding by Trust Disciplinary Procedure Policies.

Implementation of evaluation audits to measurethe impact of educational programmes and disseminate the results.

To deliver a competency-based induction, whereappropriate, for new members of the cancer workforce across all relevantdirectorates.

Facilitate the provision of Clinical Supervisionacross the cancer nursing workforce, ensuring this is a support mechanismavailable to all staff and which is embedded in practice.

Identify areas of good practice and provideopportunities for staff to share this across the organisation.

Person Specification


Physical skills

* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.
* Carrying teaching equipment such as laptop, stationary, etc.
* Manual dexterity and up to date working knowledge of equipment e.g. syringe drivers, infusion pumps, etc.


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
* Current NMC registration
* Degree in nursing studies or relevant clinical degree (UK equivalent)
* Masters level study, or equivalent specialist study / experience
* Mentorship certificate/Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience


Skills and Knowledge

* Knowledge and understanding of current relevant NHS policy or project-specific policy context
* Evidence of developing and leading programmes of education/ training
* Ability to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
* Effective organisation and time management skills and able to work to deadlines
* Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding


Experience

* Research or audit experience
* Extensive post registration experience, some of which will be at a senior level
* Experience of working at a senior level in an area requiring a broad range of complex and technically challenging skills
