The post-holder is required to work with other members of Radiation Science Services to provide a diagnostic radiation imaging and radiation protection service to all departments using ionising radiation.
The post holder will act as Medical Physics Expert in this capacity to these customers and will act as lead Medical Physics Expert for x-ray equipment quality assurance within Radiation Science Services.
Appointment at a lower grade will be considered with supported linked progression to Band 8a.

Key duties are:
·Act as the lead Medical Physics Expert for the development of methods and protocols to evaluate new and existing radiation imaging technologies guided by legislative requirements and national guidelines.
·Take a lead role in ensuring maintenance of competence of RSS staff within the area of quality assurance
·Manage the selection and provision of X-ray quality assurance test equipment within RSS
·Participate in the physics quality assurance service for radiation imaging and associated equipment.
·Act as an MPE as required under the definitions of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IRMER), for the modalities where expertise is maintained
·Act as an operator under the definitions of IRMER in accordance with this Trust and other organisations policies and practices
·Manage the provision of teaching provided by RSS to external organisations e.g. universities, FRCR.
·Provide specialist scientific advice in the purchasing of new diagnostic x–ray equipment, including specification and evaluation, and contribute to the selection of the equipment.
·Assist in the teaching of radiological physics and radiation protection outside the department.
