A global professional services firm is seeking a qualified data privacy lawyer to serve as its Data Protection Officer (DPO). This role sits within the in‑house legal function and acts as the primary point of contact for all data protection matters across multiple jurisdictions.
The position is responsible for overseeing compliance with global data protection laws, developing and maintaining the organisation’s data protection framework, and ensuring that policies, processes, and security measures remain robust and up to date. Key responsibilities include monitoring internal compliance, advising on Data Protection Impact Assessments, managing access controls in partnership with IT, handling Data Subject Access Requests, leading staff training, and conducting internal audits.
The role also represents the organisation in interactions with supervisory authorities and supports legal and governance work, including drafting and maintaining corporate documentation and assisting with regulatory inspections or proceedings. Close collaboration with senior leadership is expected, with reporting lines to the head of the legal function.
Ideal candidate:
1. Legal qualification with specialist data protection experience
2. Preferably, professional certifications in privacy CIPP/E, CIPM)
3. Strong knowledge of GDPR and other global privacy regulations
4. Experience building or managing data protection frameworks, ideally in complex or international environments
5. Familiarity with information security, risk management, and data governance
6. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills
7. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting
