Join us in shaping future cities by applying for the Graduate Acoustics Engineer role at Buro Happold.
From helping shape entire cities to adapting infrastructure to meet the climate emergency, a career at Buro Happold offers the chance to make a difference. We deliver positive change through creativity and our people.
What is Acoustic Engineering?
Outcome‑focused design: reverse engineering from people‑centric results our clients want. We use advanced computational tools to inform designs, such as the HOME Theatre complex where we mathematically predicted the response to mounting the building on springs to mitigate groundborne rail vibration, and a web giant’s European HQ in London where we modeled noise distraction in an open‑plan office.
Communication
We focus on conveying results to clients across key technical areas such as noise break‑in, internal sound transmission, reverberation control, building services noise, structural dynamics, audio‑visual design, public address, voice alarm, and vibration. Engagement is a key focus, exemplified by our work with Equinox retrofitting gyms inside listed buildings and the new Faculty of Arts building at Warwick University, where we translated faculty requirements into engineering solutions.
Challenge
We are motivated by complex challenges, from ultra‑high‑tech projects like Dyson’s campus and Imperial College Michael Uren buildings to unique architectural forms such as the Museum of the Future.
