Offer description

We are looking for a Deputy Sister to provide clinical leadership in promoting the development of neonatal care in partnership with the family and multi‑professional team, assessing, planning and implementing care and maintaining confidential accurate patient records.

The Neonatal Unit Basingstoke is a 14 cot level 2 unit caring for babies from 30 weeks gestation. We have 2 intensive cots, 3 high‑care cots and 9 special‑care cots. We work closely with the Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Network.

We are a small but dynamic team passionate about delivering high‑quality neonatal care whilst fostering a culture of growth and development. We offer a close‑knit, team‑oriented environment where everyone's contribution is valued.

Responsibilities

* Facilitate a philosophy of family‑centred care within the neonatal unit for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
* Account for own professional actions guided by Trust and unit policies and procedural guidelines.
* Attend deliveries as part of the multi‑professional resuscitation team.
* Communicate highly sensitive and condition‑related information to parents/relatives where there are barriers to understanding.
* Ensure the maintenance of confidential, accurate, up‑to‑date patient records.
* Comply with Health and Safety Regulations by prompt identification and reporting of adverse environmental conditions, adverse incidents, equipment failure and accidents appropriately.
* Maintain Data Protection, Confidentiality and Health and Safety according to Child Health Policy and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Foundation Trust Guidelines.
* Ensure efficiency in the ordering and use of supplies.
* Participate at a senior level in the overall operational management of the neonatal unit.
* Make effective use of manpower resources through participation in rosters and skill‑mix review.
* Liaise with the multi‑professional team in planning for new equipment and participate in the review of new equipment on trial.
* Be responsible for the ongoing appraisal of designated junior staff and students, taking into account both their individual development needs and their contribution to the Child Health Business Plan and Neonatal Unit Objectives.
