Electrical Machines Engineer
We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Machines Engineer to join our team in the UK, with preferred locations in Derby or Solihull, and possible in Bristol.
Our Electrical and Electronics team is part of E24S (Electrical, Electronics, Systems, Software and System Security) supporting Civil Aerospace, Defence, and Power Systems sectors. Our current focus is on electrification, including electrical power generation, conversion, energy storage, and distribution solutions. Projects range from TRL1-6 technology development, concept studies, modeling, prototyping, testing, to full-scale product demonstrations and certification work.

Key Responsibilities:
* Develop electrical machines, including requirements, trade studies, design, and analysis.
* Design electrical machines from prototypes to production, covering powers from a few kW to several MW.
* Contribute to high power density, high speed, and high-temperature electrical machine technologies.
* Develop power systems integrating electrical machines with various conversion stages for different applications.
* Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain on design for manufacturing, assembly, and cost.
* Work with the electrical team to define power system requirements.
* Implement robust solutions with materials specialists for safe operation in challenging conditions.
* Create specifications, performance requirements, and design documentation.
* Conduct rig and laboratory testing, including hardware-in-the-loop.
* Support the development of Rolls-Royce's electrical machine capabilities.
Candidate Profile:
To succeed, you should have:
* A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer preferred.
* Experience designing electrical machines for aerospace or similar industries.
* Knowledge of electrical components like inverters, energy storage, drives, and powertrains.
* Familiarity with various machine types and electromagnetic design tools (e.g., MotorCAD, COMSOL, ANSYS Maxwell).
* Understanding of electrical system analysis tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK, PSPICE.
* Experience in technical documentation and familiarity with aerospace standards is beneficial.
* Excellent communication skills.
