Job Specification – Trainee SHEQ Advisor Location: Gatwick Airport

Role Purpose The Trainee SHEQ Advisor will support the implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards across our civil engineering projects at Gatwick Airport.
This entry-level position is ideal for an individual seeking to develop a professional career in SHEQ management within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the SHEQ team in carrying out site inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
Support the development and delivery of site-specific induction and toolbox talks.
Monitor compliance with company policies, procedures, and statutory regulations (CDM, ISO 9001/14001/45001).
Gather and report key performance data such as near-miss statistics, environmental metrics, and quality indicators.
Support investigations of incidents, non-conformances, and environmental events, ensuring lessons learned are shared.
Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to internal and external audits.
Promote a proactive safety culture, engaging with site teams and subcontractors to drive continuous improvement.
Assist in the roll-out of digital SHEQ systems and reporting tools.Essential Requirements
Keen interest in developing a career within Health, Safety, Environment & Quality.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence to engage at all levels.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Willingness to work primarily on-site at Gatwick Airport (airside training and clearance provided).
Full UK driving licence and ability to pass airside vetting and background checks.Desirable Qualifications / Experience
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or working towards).
Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and ISO management systems.
Experience or exposure to civil engineering, construction, or airport operations.
Graduate or diploma-level qualification in a relevant discipline (Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering).Development & Benefits
