Main duties of the job
Duties include:
* Issuing prescriptions through pre-set repeat templates and acute items following clinician instructions, in accordance with Practice policy and procedure.
* Dealing with prescription queries from patients, pharmacies, and care homes (written and on the phone), as appropriate.
* Handling tasks and workflow specific to the Prescribing team.
* Collaborating with Doctors and other Healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
* Keeping up to date with training requirements.

The Practice:
Fitzalan Medical Group is an NHS general medical services (GMS) practice with a registered patient list of around 16,000 patients. It employs approximately 70 staff, including Salaried Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Paramedic Practitioners, Pharmacists, Clerical Staff, and Managers. The Medicines Management Team supports clinical staff with queries and prescription issuance, operating with a degree of autonomy.
Job responsibilities
1. The purpose of the Medicines Management Administrator is to ensure that prescription requests are managed efficiently and accurately, providing patients with a point of contact for medication-related queries.
2. Adhere to the practice's protocols and procedures at all times.
3. Provide effective service within the Medicines Management Team to ensure prescription requests are processed promptly.
4. Coordinate and prepare repeat prescriptions in response to written, emailed, or online requests.
5. Liaise with patients, care homes, and pharmacies regarding medication queries.
6. Communicate with community pharmacy teams about supply disruptions and inform clinicians of issues and alternatives.
7. Keep accurate records of communications in patient notes and contribute to audits.
8. Work to improve the quality and safety of prescribing.
9. Assist in delivering incentives to conserve NHS resources.
10. Monitor patients on high-risk drugs to ensure timely necessary monitoring.
11. Assist in training team members as needed.
12. Report near misses and significant events.
13. Attend monthly Medicines Management Team meetings.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience is preferred but full training will be provided.
* Experience in primary care or working in a GP practice is advantageous but not essential.
