NCMT Ltd are the UK agent for leading Japanese machine tool manufacturers Makino and Okuma. We specialise in supplying fully engineered, high-performance metal cutting solutions, from stand-alone machine tools through to complex automated manufacturing cells.
As part of our continued growth, we are expanding our Engineering Team and are seeking to recruit an Application Engineer to join the Makino–NCMT Grinding Division. This team is responsible for delivering Makino machines configured for VIPER Grinding applications across Europe.
The role
Your primary responsibility will be the delivery of the turnkey engineering package that accompanies each machine tool sale. This is a technically involved and customer-facing role, supporting projects from initial planning through to final acceptance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Planning and development of machining strategies for customer applications
* CNC programming to support turnkey projects
* Supporting First Article Inspection and achieving all customer acceptance criteria
* Delivering customer training in machine operation and CNC programming
* Working closely with internal teams and customers to ensure successful project delivery
About you
You will have a strong engineering background and experience working in a machine tool environment. You will be comfortable working independently on complex technical projects while also contributing effectively as part of a wider engineering team.
The ideal candidate will have:
* A minimum of four years’ experience within a machine tool environment, for example as a Production Engineer or Machine Tool Setter / Operator
* A good understanding of NC programming, with knowledge of Fanuc controls being advantageous
* Experience of creep feed grinding, which would be beneficial but is not essential initially
* Exposure to CAM packages for NC programme generation and machine simulation
* A genuine interest in new technology and a willingness to embrace advanced manufacturing solutions
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high level of self-motivation and time management
Location and travel
The role is primarily based at NCMT’s Technical Centre in Coventry. However, there will be a requirement for extensive travel throughout the UK and Europe to support turnkey projects through to completion.
