We are seeking an experienced Hardware Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of high-reliability electronic assemblies for use in safety - and mission-critical defence systems.
In this hands-on role, you will lead the design, build, and verification of hardware solutions where EMC is a key performance driver. The work will involve ensuring compliance with DEF STAN and MIL-STD-461 standards, spanning the full engineering lifecycle - from concept and circuit design through to integration and verification within complex electronic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop electronic hardware assemblies, including schematic capture, board stack-up definition, and circuit design.
* Develop power supply and filtering solutions, ensuring compliance with EMC requirements.
* Design for EMC performance, including filter design and grounding/shielding strategies.
* Integrate in-house hardware with COTS modules such as power supplies, single-board computers, and RF interfaces.
* Conduct integration and verification testing of hardware systems within the broader Leonardo architecture.
* Ensure designs meet DEF STAN 59-411, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-819, and CE compliance requirements.
* Produce design documentation, reports, and verification evidence aligned with project and quality standards.
* Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, systems, and test engineers.
Requirements:
* Proven experience across all stages of the electronic hardware development lifecycle.
* Strong background in circuit design, PCB-level design, and power supply/filter design.
* Demonstrated experience in designing for EMC and developing compliant hardware.
* Hands-on experience with hardware integration and system verification.
* Awareness of safety, security, and legislative standards within defence or aerospace projects.
* Familiarity with DEF STAN and MIL-STD standards for EMC and environmental compliance.
