Senior Quantity Surveyor - Banwell Bypass
Location: Banwell, North Somerset BS29 6HT
Purpose of the Role
A major contractor is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the Banwell Bypass project in North Somerset - a significant highways scheme involving a new 3.3km carriageway, junctions, earthworks, drainage, and structures. This is a high‑profile role responsible for commercial administration, reporting, and performance management to support successful project delivery. You'll play a key part in cost control, contract management, and driving commercial outcomes across one of the region's most notable infrastructure schemes.
What You Will Be Doing
Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
Prepare and negotiate subcontract documentation, including terms, pricing, and programme requirements.
Manage subcontract packages, including interim assessments and change management procedures.
Issue all commercial notices required by the contract to both the client and subcontractors.
Oversee contract changes, ensuring timely submission of Compensation Event Quotations.
Prepare, submit, and agree monthly applications in line with contractual requirements.
Work closely with operational and engineering teams to maintain accurate site records.
Produce detailed monthly commercial reports, Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), and maintain a cost plan with robust expenditure tracking and forecasting.
About You
Strong understanding of standard forms of contract.
Proficient in Excel, Word, and commercial/contract management systems (e.g., CEMAR, Oracle).
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Solid knowledge of construction processes and commercial controls.
Professional qualification such as MCIOB or MRICS (or working toward full membership).
Relevant degree and/or significant experience within a commercial construction environment.
Experience working on large single projects or multiple smaller schemes.
CSCS card appropriate to the role.
Strong organisational, time management, and outcome‑focused skills.
