Brand Genetics is a dynamic brand growth consultancy, specialising in qualitative research, insight, strategy & innovation. We partner with iconic global brands like ABI, Diageo, Mondelez, Ralph Lauren, PepsiCo, and Google to help them understand why consumers do what they do and how to influence consumer behaviour to grow their businesses.
We are seeking a sharp, strategic thinker to join our entrepreneurial London team for a 6-month internship starting in August. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a growing business that is making its mark with clients around the world. You will work as part of a diverse, smart, and highly motivated global team to challenge the status quo and deliver excellence through the power of human-first thinking.
The Role
As an Intern at Brand Genetics team, you will contribute in tangible, meaningful ways from day one. Over the course of the 6-month internship, you will be learning the ropes of:
Agile Project Management
* Managing project timelines, deadlines and keeping the team on track (internal agendas, notetaking, calendar management)
* Supporting internal project communication (e.g. meeting minutes, sharing updates internally of project process)
* Owning aspects of communication with clients and/or our research partners
Research Design & Management
* Thinking creatively and strategically about how we can best answer our client’s challenges through our consumer research
* Supporting in the design of research materials (e.g. screeners, discussion guides, capture templates, workshop day plans, stimulus)
* Briefing and collaborating with external research partners and recruiters, leveraging their expertise where appropriate
* Assisting in running fieldwork globally (e.g. setting up workshops, organising & viewing face-to-face and online qualitative research, note-taking)
Analysis, Strategic Rigour & Impact
* Data management - combing through research outputs (transcripts, videos, notes) to find patterns in consumer behaviour and being the ‘voice of the consumer’ throughout analysis
* Showing examples of turning consumer insights into ‘so whats’ for our clients i.e. understanding how and why we make recommendations on how to grow their business (e.g. via communications, innovation, or establishing a strategic vision)
* Contributing to creation and delivery of project outputs in a concise, impactful and engaging way under the guidance of your team lead
Desired Qualities & Experience
We are looking for self-motivated, critical thinkers who enjoy working in a fast-moving environment and aren’t afraid to get stuck in. A sense of humour can help too! Our slightly cheesy but true shorthand for the BG DNA is Smart, Heart, and Self-Start. Successful candidates are likely to be:
SMART:
* Passionate about consumers and brands with a basic understanding of qualitative research, brand strategy, or innovation. While professional experience is not required, any exposure to these areas through education or personal projects is highly desirable
* Curious and analytical – able digest and synthesize large amounts of information to find patterns and themes, communicating key points precisely and creatively
* Agile & solution-oriented – happy spinning lots of plates and wearing different hats (a budding project manager, researcher, strategic thinker all-in-one), calm & confident when things don’t go to plan
* Seasoned in MS Suite to craft well-designed and write clear outputs (e.g. presentations, reports, visuals) that communicate information in a compelling way. Creative/report writing experience a huge plus.
HEART:
* A team player and relationship builder – excellent at communicating and building strong positive relationships at all levels (internally and externally)
* Equipped with a growth-mindset – self-aware and able to take direction and feedback but not afraid to bring your own voice to make the work better
* Comfortable with the uncomfortable - willing to have a go at things outside their experience, equally confident enough to say when they don’t know
* Willing to go above and beyond – interest in developing yourself and the business beyond the standard, we want people who strive for excellence (not perfection)
SELF-START:
* Self-motivated, ambitious, and hungry to learn – with an ability to proactively get things done (with the support of a team) and a desire to make tangible contributions to our work
* Happy to “learn by doing” – you will be given responsibilities from day one and trusted to deliver with support from your mentor and team
NICE TO HAVES BUT NOT NECESSARY:
* Interest or experience in psychology, neuroscience, and/or behavioural science
* Interest or experience with quantitative research skills
* Experience in writing for marketing (e.g. blogs, journals etc.)
* Interest in business development
* Graphic design skills – an eye for strategic design and experience with Photoshop/ InDesign/ Illustrator
* Languages – proficiency in a language other than English highly desirable
Please note this internship is only available to those who are legally authorised to work in the UK, and we do not provide visa sponsorship. Proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking) is also necessary.
