Company Profile:
A bespoke Flexographic printing and Flexible Packaging Manufacturer who supply packaging solutions to a wide range of industries.
Title: Technical Manager
Location: West Yorkshire
Purpose of job:
To effectively and efficiently manage, lead and control the Technical Department to provide technical support across the business, including guidance to production and support to customers where required.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide technical guidance to the business:
· Ensure technical support is provided to both the operations function and customers in order to meet business and customer expectations.
· Provide guidance and solutions to technical problems as and when they arise.
· Maintain an awareness of new materials, technologies and processing methods to the market that would be applicable for the business to maintain the company as a leading provider in flexible packaging solutions.
· Provide guidance on substrates and processing materials to minimise production issues.
· Liaise with NPD on product development trials providing guidance where appropriate in preparation for commercial production trials.
· Provide appropriately documented reports as and when required with technical recommendations.
· Awareness and experience of Food Contact Compliance for EU and USA – Creation of Declaration of Compliance, overall and specific migrations testing, other testing as required.
Ensure best practice and Continuous Improvements are at the forefront of production:
· Manage the team to deliver accurate process control and short interval control documentation to the production department
· Through liaison with the Quality Manager, provide technical assistance for investigations and offer technical solutions where appropriate.
· Through your technical team, ensure that;
· Continuous Improvements are challenged and implemented throughout the production processes.
· Provide monthly technical reports to the Technical Director
· Control and manage spend within the technical department
· Improvements are delivered by providing support, guidance and training to the relevant operators.
· SOP documents are accurate, up to date and used at all times.
· A robust production trial process is available and utilised to good effect.
· A link with customer service colleagues is provided to assist where required and advise on the Pass At Press process.
Establish and effectively manage the Technical Team:
· Establish objectives and targets in line with business strategy and regularly review performance in line with company’s process.
· Lead and coach the teams to develop and retain high calibre staff at all times.
· Provide coaching and mentoring by setting professional development plans to assist employees to reach their full potential through the performance management process.
· Ensure the teams deliver the highest standard of departmental and inter-departmental teamwork and customer service (both internal and external).
· Oversee the development of the teams with the goal to achieve best practices and optimal output.
General:
· Work alongside others within the business to promote and implement the company’s policies and goals.
· Treat all colleagues in a professional, fair and empathetic manner.
· Maintain regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality and adherence to relevant health & safety procedures at all times.
· Ensure health, safety, environment and quality always remain a priority.
· Work on your own initiative as require promoting a ‘thinking out of the box’ approach and attitude.
Skills & Competences:
· Good level of general education.
· Degree standard education desirable.
· Proven experience in a flexographic print, lamination and conversion environment essential.
· Experience of laser advantageous but not essential.
· Demonstrated success in managing and developing technical teams.
· In-depth knowledge of materials (substrates, inks), technologies, equipment, processing methods.
· Sound understanding of Food Contact Compliance.
· Experience of ISO 9001.
· Proficient in IT symptoms and applications.
· Strong attention to detail and well organised.
· Strong numerical and analytical skills.
· Self-motivated/self-starter.
· Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
