The Role
As a Lead Engineer, you'll direct the daily activities of the shift teams engaged in breakdown and preventative maintenance for the plant, maximising plant reliability, performance, product quality, and safety.
You will ensure the plant is safe to operate and maintain, with personnel conforming to health and safety legislation, policies, and standards. You will lead the engineering team to support daily operations by delivering planned and reactive maintenance to achieve engineering KPIs. Working within a business-led engineering reliability strategy, you'll effectively use SAP PM and maintain equipment in line with food safety legislation. Additionally, you'll support the recruitment, motivation, and development of the engineering team to meet goals and targets set in their role profiles and performance reviews.
* Structured and practical engineering training (e.g., apprenticeship/HNC/degree).
* Knowledge and experience of maintenance in an FMCG environment.
* Understanding of H&S/Food Safety systems and legislation, e.g., PUWER, IOSH, ensuring a safe working environment.
* IT and PC proficiency, including widespread functions within relevant software (Inc Office and SAP).
* Effective communication skills, capable of developing long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
* Coaching and mentoring skills, taking responsibility for training and developing others.
* Influencing and negotiating skills, maintaining attention when speaking to groups, negotiating deals, developing persuasive arguments, and demonstrating flexibility in influencing style.
* Analytical and problem-solving skills, anticipating problems and implementing solutions swiftly.
* Project management skills, creating effective plans with milestones, identifying risks, and monitoring progress.
* Timely decision-making, considering wider risks and implications.
* Understanding of the cost base to improve profitability and managing the engineering budget.
