Overview
Facilities Support Worker (Transport and Portering) at Cheswold Park Hospital. 37.5 hours per week, shifts 5 over 7 days to include weekends and bank holidays. There will be a requirement to work night shifts to cover annual leave.
Job responsibilities
* Carry out a range of duties across portering, mail, meals, pharmacy, laundry, refuse and basic maintenance tasks as part of the Facilities Services team. Use initiative to prioritise and organise daily duties while maintaining a professional approach.
* General duties include portering, delivery and collection of meals, pharmacy items, mail, laundry and refuse; deliver stores and assist with movement of equipment; transport of items between Trust premises.
* Security duties include securing buildings and property, maintaining keys in the porters lodge, conducting regular security checks, resetting burglar alarms and liaising with the security department; monitor CCTV as required.
* Maintenance and planned works include monitoring fire alarm panels, temperature checks, door closers, maintenance checks of Trust vehicles, washing vehicles, clearing gutters, keeping grounds clean, and monitoring fridge/freezer temperatures; install or replace notices, shelving, and dispensers as required.
* Carry out repairs or new work as directed (basic plumbing, lighting, and other minor maintenance tasks); ensure pavements and patient areas are safe during inclement weather and report defects to the Portering / Transport Manager.
* Assist in general gardening duties and carry out any other reasonable tasks as instructed by the Portering / Transport Manager.
* Compliance and safety: follow risk management practices, use protective equipment, read safety guidance notes, and observe Equal Opportunities policies.
Qualifications and requirements
* Essential: driving licence and access to a car during the working day; smart appearance; ability to work as part of a team; flexible approach to working patterns; caring, friendly attitude; ability to deliver high standards; ability to retain knowledge; self-motivated; ability to work without immediate supervision; good interpersonal skills; understanding of security risks; basic literacy and numeric skills.
* Desirable: infection control, COSHH, de-escalation & break away, food hygiene; First Aid certificate.
* Experience: able to undertake basic maintenance tasks; experience in a demanding work environment; ability to prioritise and communicate effectively with service users and colleagues; basic IT/phone device familiarity; experience in estates/facilities or patient-focused environments is desirable.
* Special knowledge/skills: ability to complete accurate documentation; adaptability; ability to cope under pressure; ability to prioritise workload. Desirable: knowledge of Highway Code.
* Physical attributes: ability to undertake the duties; satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years.
