Full time – 37.5 hours per week
Working 5 over 7 on a rota basis with another Retail Catering Supervisor

We have an exciting opportunity for a supervisor to join our Retail and Catering Team at Serco - University Hospitals Southampton. Retail Catering has three outlets across the hospital site: The Feast Restaurant, Paddy & Scotts Café, and the Café at the Princess Anne Hospital. We also provide hospitality and vending options across the site.
The post holder, in conjunction with the Retail Catering Team Leader, will be responsible for supervising the Retail & Hospitality Catering service, including team management, financial performance, food safety, staff training, and brand standards.
The post holder will also be required to develop the retail catering offering, introducing new concepts and products to enhance the service for staff and visitors.
Main Accountabilities:
* Ensure staffing levels are appropriate across all catering areas.
* Develop and improve retail units, hospitality, and vending services.
* Ensure compliance with Food Safety Management System (FSMS), including record keeping.
* Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards through daily cleaning schedules.
* Monitor and control hospitality and vending services, maintaining records.
* Manage wastage levels proactively and maintain appropriate records.
* Control staffing levels, including managing leave and absence records.
* Liaise with the Estates Department to ensure equipment and facilities are maintained safely.
* Receive, store, and display stock, ensuring quality, correct quantities, and proper stock rotation.
* Supervise daily catering support operations, ensuring high-quality service.
* Provide staffing and skill mix to ensure cost-effective service.
* Ensure staff complete statutory training and maintain records.
* Record staff leave and conduct return-to-work interviews.
* Ensure staff understand and perform their duties efficiently, including menu knowledge and presentation.
* Participate in induction and training of new staff.
Requirements:
* Experience with EPOS till systems, including opening, closing, and cashing up (desirable).
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Excellent customer care skills.
* Ability to follow work instructions and standards.
* Flexibility to adapt to changing demands.
* Empathy and good judgement in supporting patients.
* Organized and efficient, responding timely to work activities.
Qualifications and Experience:
* On-the-floor catering experience, preferably in retail.
* Staff management experience, with knowledge of quality and monitoring systems (desirable).
* Experience with EPOS systems.
