Environmental Activities Officer
Hours: 21 hours per week (Monday–Friday)
Salary: £22, 986.00 pro rata to hours worked
Contract: Fixed-term – Ends 31 March 2026

We empower people to build confidence, develop social skills, and improve their quality of life through therapeutic training, creative activities, vocational development, and work experience.

Job Summary
The Environmental Activities Officer will coordinate and deliver a meaningful, nature-based activities across a range of settings including hospitals, care homes, and community venues, to dementia patients. This role is key to improving wellbeing, social inclusion, and participant engagement through hands-on environmental work such as planting, wildlife habitat creation, food growing, and creative environmentally themed crafts.
You will play a central role in designing and delivering activities, developing new projects, and ensuring activities are inclusive, high-quality, and aligned with the charity’s wellbeing outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Activity Delivery & Engagement
• Facilitate environmental and nature-based activities in community, care, and clinical settings.
• Design a diverse programme of inclusive activities that support wellbeing and social interaction, including for individuals living with dementia.
• Encourage participation and liaise with healthcare professionals to promote engagement on wards and in services.
• Organise group sessions that inspire creativity, outdoor engagement, and environmental awareness.
Leadership & Project Development
• Provide day-to-day supervision and support to the participants
• Support project planning, delivery and monitoring, of participants.
• Ensure that mandatory training, record-keeping, and administrative tasks (including Lamplight database updates) are completed accurately and on time.
• Ensure relevant training of participants in the use of tools, equipment, and materials.
• Ensure tools are used safely, maintained, and properly recorded in inventories.
Participant Progression & Support
• Liaise with referral agencies and professionals, providing updates on participant progress and outcomes.
• Support individuals to access further training, volunteering, education, or employment opportunities.
• Help build the confidence of vulnerable individuals to promote personal growth and independence.
• Signpost or liaise with agencies regarding wider support needs (e.g., housing, benefits).
Monitoring, Partnership & Reporting
• Maintain regular communication with Line Manager about participants and project progress or concerns.
• Attend and contribute to team meetings, training sessions.
• Support the promotion and publicising of Growing Space projects to potential participants and referral sources, via our social media.
• Work in line with the charity’s policies on safeguarding, data protection, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
• Any other reasonable duties.

Person Specification
Qualifications
• Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy or equivalent (Essential)
• RHS Level 2 or equivalent horticultural qualification (Desirable)
Experience
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a mental health or related support setting (Essential)
• Experience of coordinating and facilitating group activities (Essential)
• Experience of partnership or multi-agency working (Desirable)
Skills & Abilities
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (Essential)
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities (Essential)
• Organisational and administrative skills; ability to prioritise and meet deadlines (Essential)
• Confident IT user, including Microsoft Office (Essential)
• Ability to problem-solve and use creative approaches (Essential)
• Welsh language skills (Desirable)
