The practice of Speech Therapy shall include assessment, treatment, planning, implementing, education, communication, and demonstration of leadership to address the needs of patients and their families, as well as to foster a positive working relationship among professionals and ancillary staff. This person may be caring for infants, children, adolescents, and/or senior patients and will have the knowledge and skills to care for the physical and developmental needs of these populations. The Speech Therapist will practice within defined standards of care and direct the practice of support staff to achieve the patient's functional goals.
Responsibilities
Care Management
* Provides appropriate supervision to supportive personnel (Techs, students) while assuming responsibility for patient care.
* Attends and actively participates in patient team conferences and family conferences.
* Determines needs for follow-up outpatient therapy and makes post-discharge recommendations.
Documentation
* Documents within EMR and charting accurately, reflecting a logical flow between data collected, actions taken, and patient responses.
* Plans specific measures to meet assessed learning needs and documents in patient records.
* Recognizes and addresses the learning needs of patients, families, and others, presenting information clearly and appropriately.
* Implements the treatment plan, evaluates, and records patient responses to treatment sessions.
* Participates in developing discharge plans responsive to patient and family concerns and revises plans based on assessments.
Education
* Acts as a resource to peers within the rehabilitation department, mentoring and providing educational opportunities.
* Serves as a resource to other departments and the community.
Patient Care
* Reviews patient history and data prior to evaluation.
* Evaluates and treats patients without a physician order as established by Board of Medical Directors rules.
* Assists patients and families in discharge planning.
Compliance/Safety
* Reports safety incidents promptly, attends safety training, and monitors the work environment for safety issues.
* Stays current with regulations and company policies, maintaining necessary certifications and licenses.
* Completes mandatory training and meets productivity standards.
* Attends department meetings and responds promptly to new orders, maintaining accurate documentation.
Qualifications
* Education: Master's degree required.
* Certification & Licensures: Current license in Arizona, BLS certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card (application and within 90 days), and ongoing clinical competencies.
* Experience: Minimum one year in the specialty area preferred.
