York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a passionate and dynamic leader to become our Hawthorn (Antenatal/Postnatal) Ward Manager at Scarborough Hospital. This is a job share with our current Ward Manager.
You will participate in the leadership of antenatal/postnatal care at the Scarborough site, supporting staff to lead with a focus on women, birthing individuals, and family centred care.
You will support and contribute to our improvement plans, informed by the Maternity Three Year Delivery Plan:
1. Listening to and working with women, birthing individuals and families with compassion

3. Developing a culture of safety, learning and support
4. Meeting and improving standards and structures
Main duties of the job
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and highly motivated Ward Manager:
5. To provide senior leadership and hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day operational running of the clinical managerial and requirements for Hawthorn (Antenatal/Postnatal) Ward.
6. To lead by example and empower staff in their personal and professional development.
7. Take the lead role in ensuring the environmental and ward processes are responsive to the needs of women and birthing individuals, providing assurance through agreed mechanisms.
8. Work alongside and support the Hawthorn ward team in a clinical capacity when required, being an expert practitioner to guide and advise the multi-disciplinary team as required.
9. You will have excellent communication skills and will inspire your team with your drive and passion for developing people and services.
10. You will be a visible and credible clinical leader, promoting compassionate leadership within the labour ward whilst engaging your team to improve standards of care.
As a professional Midwifery leader you will ensure the professional development and standards of midwives within the labour ward, providing professional oversight and governance.

Experience and Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
19. Recent leadership or managerial experience (taking charge on a shift)
20. Experience of initiating and leading a change in practice
21. Recent experience of audit
22. Taking charge and motivating a team at periods of peak capacity and working under pressure
23. Experience of contributing to managing flow across a busy maternity unit
24. Experience of developing services as part of a multidisciplinary team, or experience of initiating and leading a change in practice
Desirable criteria
25. Experience of managing complaints
26. Experience of managing sickness and absence
27. Experience of participation in areas of clinical governance and risk assessments
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
28. Registered midwife
29. Practice supervisor and practice assessor

32. Masters degree

33. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels across the Department, Division and Trust
