Company Description

The UK Government has established UK Industrial Fusion Solutions (UKIFS) Ltd., a subsidiary of UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), to lead the development of fusion energy through the design and construction of the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) prototype fusion plant. UKIFS is in the process of setting up the company, attracting talent, engaging with industry, developing a supply chain, and planning the construction of the STEP prototype.

Fusion energy is vital for combating climate change and achieving energy independence, with commercial viability expected by mid-century. The UK, led by UKIFS, aims to have a prototype fusion plant operational around 2040. UKIFS will collaborate with industrial partners to build a fusion supply chain, which is projected to be worth approximately £7 trillion annually globally. Job Description

The position is based at West Burton Power Station, Retford, with onsite work expected three days per week.

The Role

Are you seeking an exciting opportunity to make a global impact? Join us as

Head of Programme and Project Controls

in the field of fusion energy. You will lead the development and implementation of program and project controls within UKIFS and a major collaborative program, ensuring best practices, compliance, and overall success. You will manage a team of project professionals, collaborate with stakeholders, and work closely with senior leaders to establish and deliver the program effectively.

Additional Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and guidance to team members and stakeholders, aligning with the CEO and Chair’s vision and organizational values.

Lead and develop a team of project professionals, fostering growth, engagement, and high performance.

Act as an ambassador for STEP, demonstrating thought leadership and fostering collaboration.

Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including the UK Government Project Delivery Profession and Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA).

Contribute strategically to governance boards and help establish STEP as a major program within the Senior Leadership Team.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams and build stakeholder confidence.

Professional qualifications such as Chartered Project Professional, PRINCE2, or Managing Successful Programmes, and membership of relevant bodies like the Association for Project Management.

Deep understanding of project and program management methodologies and controls, with the ability to adapt and apply the most suitable approaches.

Thorough knowledge of risk management, cost control, and quality assurance.
