Summary We are looking for a dynamic Farm Manager to fill this unique role. The farm manager will lead on the management of our pedigree livestock to deliver the highest animal welfare standards and innovative nature conservation. Managing an assistant Farm Worker and working collaboratively within the Countryside Management team at Kingston Lacy, you will provide valuable conservation grazing in varied habitats. We are looking for an experienced livestock manager who is excellent at working with people and building relationships to ensure the successful delivery and progression of the ambitious nature recovery targets. A cottage on the estate will be provided as part of this role. You will be part of an out-of-hours team required to carry out locking up and alarm response outside of normal working hours. You will be working with a driven and highly motivated team at the forefront of the National Trust’s ambitious nature recovery targets for Kingston Lacy. The estate covers a total of 8,500 acres; this encompasses in hand land which is grazed by our livestock and land that is let to tenant farmers. There is a huge variety of habitats from parkland, woodland, chalk downland and heathland and the estate is crossed by miles of footpaths and bridleways. The outstanding art collection is one of the main attractions to the beautiful Italian-inspired mansion with its rare collection of artefacts. For more information about our property please visit kingston-lacy What you'll be doing It will be your role to manage our pedigree herd of Red Ruby Devon Cattle, flock of Portland sheep and our 1 pig to the highest welfare standards. The continuation of the pedigree and heritage bloodlines of our horned cattle, which form part of the National Trust collection, will be an essential part of your role. You will lead on conservation grazing in our 250 acre, Grade II listed, parkland and across the wider estate ensuring compliance with accreditation schemes and stewardship agreements. As you monitor the success of your activities, you’ll take responsibility for budgets, financial reporting and compliance. You’ll achieve all of this through collaborative working and information sharing across the multi-disciplinary team. Working with stakeholders including local community, statutory bodies and funders, you’ll influence where necessary to ensure results are achieved. Who we're looking for To be successful in this role you'll need experience of; Relevant farm and livestock management with appropriate qualifications and competency with machinery and equipment Managing pedigree native cattle and sheep to a high standard Running a grass-fed livestock system Managing livestock in busy public areas Software used to record and manage livestock. Births, movements and vet meds etc. Wildlife, habitat and soil monitoring and recording techniques Working within a protected landscape such as a National Nature Reserve Natural process driven conservation Managing a Farm Worker and volunteers.
