About The Department
Are you a Design and Technology enthusiast ready to inspire the next generation? Do you dream of a career where you can truly make a difference?
This unique role involves delivering high-quality Design & Technology lessons (KS3/KS4) while leading our popular Vocational Hair & Beauty course. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring classroom practitioner with a real passion for Design and Technology with a specialism in Hair and Beauty. We offer an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and motivated team, and you must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of 'students first'. Applications are invited from the following subject disciplines: Hair and Beauty, Hospitality and Catering, Product Design, Graphics and Textiles.
The Design and Technology department is a friendly, supportive and high-performing team of teachers. The department is made up of experienced staff so is a great place to start your career as a teacher, as well as somewhere where more experienced staff can thrive.
The department is well resourced with subject-specific equipment. There is a Product Design classroom/workshop, two catering classrooms, a Graphics/Textiles classroom and a Hair and Beauty Salon. Every classroom has a visualiser, and these are used extensively by the team in episodes of guided practice. The department is supported by two technicians (Product Design and Catering).
The Design and Technology curriculum is built with the end in mind, and the KS3 curriculum prepares students for the KS4 qualifications of VTCT Hair and Beauty, WJEC Hospitality and Catering and WJEC Design and Technology: Product Design. These programmes of study are fully resourced with high-quality materials.

Responsibilities
The Teacher is expected to implement and use a wide range of teaching and learning strategies within the classroom, applying techniques like Assessment for Learning (AfL) to continually improve student performance. A core duty involves effectively using student level data to identify areas for development and raise standards.
This professional must be aware of strategies available for improving the learning and achievement of all students, alongside possessing a good understanding of curriculum developments within their specific subject area. The role requires maintaining high expectations for all students and effectively communicating with students and their parents, both orally and in writing. The teacher is expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing good practice across the department, and demonstrating creativity in problem solving and a willingness to adopt new approaches.

Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a degree in an appropriate discipline related to the relevant subject and a teaching qualification coupled with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Required experience includes recent and relevant teaching experience (either in employment or training) and experience of assessment at Key Stage 3 and 4.
The successful candidate will be confident in using standard computer packages (word processing, email, and spreadsheets) and understand how these tools can enhance student learning. The role demands high levels of professionalism, including the ability to relate to students in a pleasant and sympathetic manner, and a capacity to recognise potential child safeguarding issues.
