About the role
As a Technical Supervisor, you’ll ensure the safe and efficient delivery of mechanical and electrical maintenance activities across the Dartford River Crossing and tunnel. Managing a team of M&E Maintenance Technicians and overseeing the work of subcontractors, you’ll help maintain the safety and compliance of all work activities, conduct site visits, carry out regular briefings and debriefings, and contribute to the development of risk assessments and method statements. You’ll also play an active role in driving continuous improvement, identifying cost‑saving opportunities, and ensuring resource allocation aligns with operational needs. Your effective leadership will support the long‑term success of the M25 network, ensuring it remains safe, resilient and in top condition.
Responsibilities
* Maintain expert knowledge of electrical and mechanical plant within the Dartford River Crossing and tunnel.
* Ensure efficient management of all work activities, focusing on methodology, safety measures, and timely completion.
* Positively engage with M&E staff and subcontractors to address any issues with methodology or safety controls, developing solutions to ensure safe and efficient execution of works.
* Prepare and deliver work briefings, outlining methodology, hazards, risks and control measures.
* Deliver detailed debriefs at the end of each shift to identify issues and incorporate lessons learned into future activities.
* Review dashboard reports, identify priorities and carry out pre‑site inspections to determine work methodology and resource needs.
* Maintain accurate records of activities, including work completed, resources used and correct allocation of associated costs to demonstrate 3rd‑party accountability and provide assurance to our client.
* Ensure sufficient resources are in place to deliver all works activities safely and on time.
* Oversee fleet management, ensuring compliance with drivers' hours and vehicle defect reporting.
Safety and compliance
* Drive Zero Harm objectives by raising risk awareness, mitigating hazards and fostering a proactive safety culture across the maintenance team and contractors.
* Lead by example to ensure all activities meet safety standards and comply with systems, processes and procedures.
* Contribute to the creation and continuous improvement of risk assessments and method statements, ensuring they reflect best practices.
* Engage the workforce in identifying gaps in current risk assessments and method statements, contributing feedback for future revisions.
* Raise awareness of issues that may affect the safe operation of the network, reporting these accordingly.
Leadership
* Manage day‑to‑day people management tasks, including performance monitoring, absence management, overtime and annual leave requests.
* Support the growth and development of team members through ongoing feedback, training and support.
* Manage rotas to ensure sufficient staffing to carry out tasks.
* Manage the performance of the team, including carrying out Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) and implementing Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) where required.
* Ensure regular internal and external communication with the team, including delivering toolbox talks on a regular basis.
Continuous improvement & sustainability
* Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, empowering teams to explore new ideas and solutions to enhance performance.
* Identify cost‑saving opportunities.
* Support the achievement of sustainability objectives, ensuring maintenance activities align with environmental best practices and Connect Plus Services’ long‑term goals.
Qualifications
* CSCS card holder – Supervisor.
* Mechanical or Electrical trade qualification.
* SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
* Previous experience in the maintenance of HV, LV, high‑volume pumps and associated safety systems in a highways and tunnels environment.
* Knowledge and experience of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards within a highways context.
* Competent user of MS Word, Excel and Outlook (or equivalent).
* Current UK driving licence.
* Proven experience of managing and leading multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to communicate verbally with clarity and authority to engage operatives, colleagues and management.
* Ability to write clear and understandable briefings and handover notes, and keep full and accurate records.

Working arrangements
The role follows a 4‑on, 4‑off shift pattern, rotating equally between four day shifts and four night shifts.
