Postdoctoral Research Associate - Genomics and Modelling
Reference: JUN20253774
Expiry date: 22:59, Wed, 9th Jul 2025
Location: Liverpool
Benefits: 30 Days holiday + Bank Holiday and additional Christmas closure days
Duration: Fixed-term contract until 30th June 2028
We are seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the NIHR-funded DengRIP project (https://www.lstmed.ac.uk/dengrip), which aims to develop enhanced surveillance methods for dengue transmission risk, by integrated modelling of Ae. aegypti abundance, distribution, behaviour, genomics, immunological biomarkers and digital surveillance, and will trial promising community-embedded mosquito control tools.
You will work within the entomological work packages of the research to develop and implement analyses of mosquito population genomics, and spatially-explicit mechanistic models of dengue transmission risk. You will support the design and analysis of fieldwork programmes to collect samples for fine-scale population genomics, including analyses of subspecific admixture and insecticide resistance in the context of surveillance and intervention trials. Modelling work will integrate multiple biological, environmental and socioeconomic datasets to develop predictive models for dengue and projections for control success beyond the specific trial areas.
Genomics work will be led by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and modelling work by the University of Glasgow, both in close collaboration with teams in Burkina Faso. This role offers a unique opportunity to address a critical global health challenge as part of a multidisciplinary team.
