Software Application Architect role at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence
Location: London, UK. This role supports Law Enforcement and Government customers across the UK and requires a secure site presence on a hybrid schedule (2‑3 days on site at London offices or 4‑5 days at other secure sites).
Grade: GG11‑GG13 | Referral Bonus: £5,000
Role Summary
You will be a key member of an autonomous, empowered engineering community focused on building systems for public sector customers. You will design, develop, deploy and maintain applications and services, working closely with end‑users, stakeholders and other architects to create secure, high‑quality solutions across a broad range of technologies (cloud, on‑premise, data, messaging).
Responsibilities
* Define software architectures and designs, identifying new ways of solving problems.
* Take technical ownership of deliverables and mentor junior engineers as needed.
* Collaborate with tech leads and other architects to join‑up solutions.
* Communicate clearly and concisely with customers, stakeholders and team members.
* Champion quality assurance, best practices and secure design principles.
* Participate in agile development, contributing to planning, iteration reviews and continuous improvement.
* Help select appropriate technologies for each project.
Qualifications (Experience)
* Designing innovative solutions within business and technical constraints.
* Familiarity with security concepts, including secure design and implementation.
* Managing stakeholders, including customers and end users.
* Practical software development experience across the full stack (React, TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, C#, messaging, Elastic, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
* Experience with agile development methodologies.
Additional Desired Skills
* Cloud technology training and certification (AWS, Azure).
* Full‑stack technical design experience.
* Mentoring junior engineers.

Security & Clearance
This role requires Security Clearance to SC (and potentially customer‑specific clearance). The vetting process will be completed over the onboarding programme.
