Site Engineer – HV Substation (Walpole, PE14 7JE)
Location: Walpole 400kV Substation, Norfolk
Rate: £400.00 outside IR35 (via MRR Infrastructure)
Contract Type: Full-time, site-based, contract
Duration: 2-year project | 6-month contract - likely too be extended | Start: 26 August 2025
Hours: 50 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

We are currently recruiting for a Site Engineer to support the civil and structural works on a major 400kV substation development near Wisbech. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced site engineer with strong knowledge of the transmission and distribution (T&D) sector to join a highly capable delivery team on a long-term project.
Role Overview:
You will work alongside the Site Manager, ensuring all works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with the design, programme and quality standards. You will provide technical oversight, carry out setting out, and manage day-to-day site engineering tasks.
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret and maintain construction, topographical and rebar drawings and schedules
*
Set out, level and survey works, ensuring accuracy against AFC drawings
*
Verify sub-contractor work and coordinate with gangers, foremen and other teams
*
Maintain site records, QA documentation, site diary and as-built information
*
Coordinate and manage temporary works as a TWC or TWS
*
Support material compliance, inspections, and witness/hold points
*
Lead technical queries and RFIs, maintaining accurate registers
*
Ensure installations comply with project quality plans including SQP, PQP and ITPs
*
Provide support to the Site Manager in planning, quality control and SHE compliance
*
Assist with the issuance of permits and safe systems of work
*
Promote high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance
Essential Requirements:
*
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Site Engineer in the T&D industry, preferably on National Grid sites
*
Strong understanding of construction drawings and setting out procedures
*
CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport
*
National Grid Person
*
Full UK driving licence
*
IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS or SSSTS
*
Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor experience
*
Excellent communication, organisation and team coordination skills
