Job Summary
This exciting and interesting job involves working with male patients in secure services. The post holder will be expected to plan, organise and implement an appropriate range of activities to help meet individual needs, with oversight from registered Occupational Therapists. Activities may include relaxation, mindfulness, domestic cooking activities, creative sessions, community access, gym access and physical activities. There is scope for the post holder to identify and deliver new activities that are within their own personal skill set. You will follow a daily timetable of activities that support patients to achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
* Develop positive supportive relationships with patients to help them achieve their personal goals.
* Develop new and exciting activities to ensure a varied range of therapy activities on site.
* Thoroughly plan, organise and implement a range of therapeutic activities aimed at meeting specific and targeted individual needs.
* Use positive encouragement to support individuals with complex mental health conditions, learning disabilities and autism to engage in meaningful activity.
* Ensure that all activities meet clear risk assessment and health and safety practices.
Person Specification
Qualifications – Essential
* NVQ Level III or equivalent in relevant subject area
* Food Hygiene training or be willing to gain within 3 months of appointment
* COSHH training or be willing to gain within 6 months of appointment
* First Aid training or be willing to gain within 6 months of appointment
Qualifications – Desirable
* Higher level education qualifications
Knowledge & Expertise – Essential
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* High level of coordination and organisational skills
* Basic risk assessment and risk management skills
* Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
* Computer literacy
* Basic understanding of issues affecting people with a Learning Disability, Autism or Mental Illness in a secure environment
* Basic awareness of issues affecting health & social care
Knowledge & Expertise – Desirable
* Knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice or of other therapies
* Skills and interest in using a variety of activities and interventions relevant to the post including creative activities, domestic skills, horticulture, exercise
Experience – Essential
* At least three years experience in a health care setting
* Experience of organising and leading individual or group therapeutic activities
* Experience of working with individuals with Learning Disabilities, Autism or Mental Health conditions
Experience – Desirable
* Experience in a secure setting
* Experience of working in the community
* Experience of delivering adult education
* Experience in an Occupational Therapy team
