Overview
Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse, Haematology role at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. The post-holder will provide clinical leadership and management support within Ward 34, deputising for the department manager as required. Previous experience within haematology is essential and the successful applicant must be competent in the delivery of chemotherapy and possess an assessor qualification.
A shift/team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support, and developing and evaluating best practice within the department. Ward 34 is the Tertiary Centre for Coventry and Warwickshire for treatment of patients with Haematological Malignancies requiring intensive inpatient chemotherapy. We are an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant Centre, Haemophilia Treatment Centre and Haemoglobinopathy Centre.
Please note that interviews for this post will take place in the week commencing 29/09/2025. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
The ward is configured to provide inpatient, day case and clinic facilities in one place, ensuring immunocompromised patients do not share waiting or day case space with other patients. Staff work in a dynamic multidisciplinary team with senior nurses available on hand when needed. The majority of inpatients are treated for haematological malignancies or complications of treatment; the nursing team also supports other complex patient groups, including bleeding disorders and sickle cell disease. We have expertise in delivering curative and palliative treatments and supporting patients throughout their journey, including end of life care. All nurses are trained in, or are receiving training in, venipuncture, cannulation, management of tunneled CVCs, delivery of chemotherapy and stem cells.
Ward 34 is a busy ward with a focus on building long-term relationships with patients. As a motivated Band 6 nurse you will have opportunities to develop yourself, support colleagues, manage shifts and participate in staff appraisals.

Main Duties/Responsibilities
* Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Contributes to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
* Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team, including situations where comprehension may be challenging.
* Provide clinical leadership, support the management team, and participate in service/policy development.
* Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring care is planned, implemented and evaluated/an audited, involving patients and users.
* Organise cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate.
* Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management, including complex patient monitoring, equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures.
* Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required.
* Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
* Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring physical effort according to patient need, referring to a senior member of staff where appropriate.
* Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations in the clinical area, e.g. delivering bad news or following an unexpected event.
* Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policies to protect staff and service users from hazards.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment, ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.

Requirements / Qualifications
* Evidence of haematology experience and competence in delivery of chemotherapy.
* Assessor qualification (or willingness to undertake).
* Immunisation/vaccination report as required by UK occupational health standards.
