Isleworth Crown Court Administrative Officer (AO)
Contract: March 2026 | Salary: £14.75 | Location: Isleworth, London | 5 days in office
This is a temporary contract role until March 2026 for an Administrative Officer with an immediate start date (compliance dependant) for a 6 months duration with a possible extension. The position is based in Isleworth, London, in a flexible team setting.
Overview
Good administrative staff with excellent customer service skills are vital to the effective operation of the Courts, Tribunals and other offices within HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS). HMCTS uses Lean principles and continuous improvement techniques to deliver high standards of customer service. Administrative Officers are assigned to teams to carry out general administrative duties to progress cases through the court/tribunal system or provide support to other HMCTS functions. Role holders may have regular contact with court users, including members of the Judiciary and the legal profession. The post holder will work within a team with management support and manage their own time, with some opportunities to advise and supervise others.
Responsibilities may be performed flexibly across local HMCTS offices as needed. It is not expected that a single post will cover the full range of duties.
Responsibilities
* Preparing papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings
* Producing court/tribunal documents
* General photocopying and filing
* Creating and updating records on in-house computer systems and data input
* Post opening and dispatch
* Booking, preparing and organising meeting rooms; supporting training courses and other group activities
* Preparing meeting agendas, joining instructions and handouts
* Drafting standard letters and correspondence, minutes, notes, reports and submissions according to guidelines
* Clerking civil and family courts, tribunals and hearings; ensuring papers and materials are current and available
* Assisting court users, supporting listing and rota management, checking files
* Contacting relevant parties, scheduling, serving court documents, executing warrants, collecting fines and fees (including use of chip and pin)
* Handling counter, written and telephone enquiries
* Ensuring Team Information Board (TIB) meetings are relevant and productive
* Supporting problem solving, contributing to small projects, and adapting to new SOPS
* Carrying out ad hoc roles within the band (e.g., Jury Bailiff Officer, L+D Co-ordinator, H&S roles)
* Processing casework, including standard documentation, court orders, claims, fines and fees, and legal aid
* Accurately resulting courts and interpreting information required on court files
* Working to workload targets for throughput and accuracy
* Checking and verifying documents, records, accounts and returns against criteria, regulations or procedures
* Ensuring compliance and quality standards in administration documentation
* Cross-checking and validating work completed by colleagues when required
* Collecting and assembling information for returns, results, accounts, statements, warrants and reports
* Interpreting source materials, preparing bundles, chasing information
* Modifying and adjusting information to complete work; preparing for and running daily TIB meetings
* Producing basic statistical analyses and processing financial information where required
* Checking others’ work, updating records, reconciling accounts, preparing invoices and straightforward reports
* Managing limited spend on behalf of an office or unit
* Estimating juror numbers and managing them efficiently
* Communicating with the public, judiciary, court users and external stakeholders to gather information, check facts and provide high-quality customer service
* Delivering a helpful, prompt and accurate service to internal and external customers
Skills & Qualifications
* 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or NVQ Business Administration Level II or equivalent administrative experience
* Relevant computer skills for the role
Operational Delivery in HMCTS
