We have a fantastic opportunity to join Openfield as a Trainee Laboratory & Ports Analyst in the Grain Laboratory, based at our site in Colsterworth near Grantham Monday to Friday. We are looking for somebody who can work closely, collaboratively and effectively with all stakeholders and who can proactively build and maintain positive and effective working relationships to deliver effective service. Attention to detail and an ability to remain focused is key. The successful candidate will also demonstrate self- motivation and good time management and will drive their own proactive approach to learning, development and continuous improvement in the role. Key responsibilities will include: Operating the public weighbridge Conducting analytical tests and visual assessments of cereals, pulses and oilseeds Recording and reporting data and communicating results Working at the ports taking grain samples and monitoring the quality of loads on the vessel Other general laboratory duties such as cleaning and maintenance of equipment and storage of samples. We are looking for someone with: Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail Ability to remain highly focused especially during the grain analysis process Proven time management skills and proficient in data entry Ability to process numbers and good at mental arithmetic Science based/mathematical education and application (desirable but not required) This is a hands-on role, that may suit somebody from a farming background (although all applicants are invited to apply) who is physically able for example to lift heavy grain sacks weighing 23 kilos and organise grain sample bag storage Willingness to travel and stay overnight and do some weekend work where required. An understanding of the requirement for flexibility with starting and finishing times in busy periods (especially harvest and portside).
