Musculoskeletal First Contact Practitioner

EPUT, as one of the national pilot sites for a First Contact Practitioner (FCP) service, is a well‑established provider of clinicians to West Essex. We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic musculoskeletal clinician to join our team and deliver the FCP service across West Essex. The successful candidate will be employed using funding provided by the musculoskeletal pathway. The Primary Care Networks (PCNs) we serve span across West Essex, including North Uttlesford, South Uttlesford, Harlow North & South, Epping Forest, and Loughton, Buckhurst Hill & Chigwell.
Main duties of the job
As part of the FCP team you will deliver an innovative model of care within GP practices across the Primary Care Networks, providing frontline expert screening, assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions. Patients will access an FCP appointment directly from GP receptionists. Your responsibilities will include:
* Assessing patients and requesting diagnostics (imaging and blood analysis) as appropriate
* Signposting patients to suitable care pathways and making referrals to secondary care
* Liaising with specialists in primary and secondary care and spinal multidisciplinary teams
* Providing expert screening, assessment and diagnosis of musculoskeletal conditions
* Supporting patients in self‑management or appropriate clinical pathways
Person Specification
Education
* MSK degree or equivalent, HCPC or equivalent registration
* Post‑graduate MSK courses, injection therapy, non‑medical prescribing, IRMER training
* Completed the FCP Roadmap or equivalent university course
Experience
* At least 3 years of musculoskeletal experience
* Experience within the NHS musculoskeletal service

Address
West Essex GP practices, primarily Saffron Walden, Waltham Abbey and Harlow. Additional sites may be required depending on service needs.
